Description
Your adventure begins in Funchal, where you’ll meet us at the CR7 Museum before setting off towards the mountains. Sit back and enjoy the journey to Pico do Areeiro, where an unforgettable hike awaits.
From here, you’ll step onto the famous PR1 Vereda do Areeiro, crossing the dramatic Central Massif of Madeira. The trail takes you through a spectacular mountain landscape, with steep climbs and descents, narrow ridges, stone steps and tunnels carved directly into the rock.
As you make your way across the peaks, the views constantly change. Look down towards the dramatic valley of Curral das Freiras and admire some of Madeira’s highest mountains, including Pico das Torres (1,851 m), the island’s second-highest peak, as well as Pico do Gato and the distinctive silhouette of Pico Grande rising in the distance.
Along the way, you’ll pass through many of the trail’s characteristic short mountain tunnels before continuing towards the final ascent. Step by step, the landscape opens up as you approach Pico Ruivo.
At 1,862 metres, Pico Ruivo is the highest point in Madeira. Reaching the summit is the reward for the journey, with breathtaking panoramic views stretching across the island and its spectacular mountain ranges.
Once you’ve completed the hike, your transport will be waiting to take you back to Funchal, leaving you with the memories of one of Madeira’s most iconic mountain adventures.
