Description
This is a very special expedition to take on-foot for regular walkers! Starting at Paul da Serra and finishing in Fanal, this breathtaking walk is one of the few places in Madeira where you can see the Laurissilva vegetation at its best.
Embarking on this journey, you traverse a vast carpet of laurel forest—a UNESCO-designated World Natural Heritage Site since 1999. This pristine realm is a vestige of Madeira's original woodland cover, a sanctuary for the island's most ancient trees—centuries-old Tis (Ocotea foetens).
Among the highlights are the awe-inspiring view over the Ribeira da Janela valley and the captivating Chão da Ribeira, both iconic landmarks that punctuate your journey.
