Description

Discover the Ponta São Lourenço Natural Reserve (PR8 Vereda da Ponta São Lourenço) on a self-paced hike. The trail covers 7.5 km on a volcanic peninsula featuring basalt and limestone formations, rare plant species, and diverse wildlife. The semi-arid climate and exposure to northern winds result in low vegetation and no trees, contrasting with Madeira’s lush interior.

Your shared transfer picks you up from accommodation in Funchal, Caniço, Santa Cruz, or Machico and takes you to the trailhead. Upon arrival, instructions and a digital map are provided to help you navigate the round-trip route with minimal elevation gain (around 100 meters).

The trail is suitable for all skill levels, including families and seniors. If time allows, you can swim at the beach near the trail’s end; bring swimwear if interested.
