Description
The tour begins with a pickup from an agreed meeting point. The first stop is Pico dos Barcelos, offering panoramic views of Funchal. After approximately 15 minutes, the journey continues to Eira do Serrado, located at 1,094 metres altitude, passing green valleys and ravines along the way.
At Eira do Serrado, guests have the option to take a short, easy walk along a secured mountain path to a viewpoint overlooking the Nuns Valley village, Curral das Freiras.
After spending around 35 minutes at Eira do Serrado, the tour proceeds to Curral das Freiras. This village historically served as a refuge for nuns fleeing pirates since 1566. Visitors can explore the village centre, including a small church with a brightly coloured interior.
Curral das Freiras is also known for its chestnut-based cuisine, featuring traditional soups, main dishes, desserts, liquors, cakes, cheesecakes, and chestnut beer. The bus departs after approximately 45 minutes to return to Funchal.
