Description

This tour starts at Funchal and the first stop is at an altitude of 1094 metres. The Eira do Serrado viewpoint offers an unobstructed view of the parish of Curral das Freiras. If the clouds are low, you will get the chance to stand above the clouds. After, we will take you down to the Valley. In 1566 the nuns from the Santa Clara convent fled from pirates attacking Funchal and found seclusion here, where they also brought the convent treasure. Being one of the more distant locations from the municipal seat of Câmara de Lobos, it is geographically isolated from other communities by the cliffs and peaks surrounding its central valley. We will give you 30 minutes to explore. As you visit the valley you can find a 19th century church, and you can also try the famous chestnut bread. After the valley, we will head to Funchal where the tour will finish.
