- Colors that streak across the sky and soothe the heart: Madeira's highest sunset
Description
The sunset at Pico do Arieiro offers a magical and peaceful experience above the clouds, at an altitude of 1,818 meters.
It features fewer crowds than in the morning, colorful skies reflected in the rugged mountains, and cool mountain temperatures, allowing you to enjoy the view at your leisure.
The summit is often above a sea of clouds, creating a dreamlike setting.
The sky changes to deep golden, purple, and red hues as the sun goes down over the horizon.
For those looking for a more adventurous experience, there is the option of hiking to the Pedra Rija Observation Deck, going up the famous “Stairway to Heaven” and enjoying spectacular views of Madeira's majestic mountains.
Bring warm clothes, windbreakers and comfortable shoes, as the summit gets very cold in the evening.
