Description
The hike begins with a brief walk along the main road before a steep 710-meter (2,360-foot) ascent towards Raposeira. The trail is rugged, steep, and occasionally slippery, revealing increasing views of Paúl do Mar as you climb.
Kitty, the hiking dog, leads the way, sometimes disappearing briefly but always returning to check the group. The route passes through fields and meadows where you’ll enjoy quiet surroundings, fresh air, and local flora. Upon reaching Raposeira, encounter traditional houses and friendly locals open to conversation.
From Raposeira, the trail follows a levada before switching to a new path toward Fajã da Ovelha, offering expansive views. After a short road walk where Kitty is on leash, the descent begins from Fajã da Ovelha down to Paúl do Mar, moving toward the sea under warm sun.
At the end of the hike, you can swim in the sea or relax at Bar da Praia. Locals warmly welcome Kitty, who remains energetic throughout.
