Description

Discover Madeira through a nature-focused journey blending dramatic landscapes, rural life, agriculture, and an immersive encounter with exotic birds. This experience combines scenic viewpoints, off-road adventure, wildlife, and authentic local culture for a distinctive day on the island. The tour begins with a panoramic stop overlooking the Socorridos Valley, with views toward the Coral beer factory and surrounding agricultural slopes. Along non-touristic roads, your local guide explains Madeira’s microclimates and natural environments supporting farming and wildlife. The journey continues to the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, where guests discover its connection to the sea and rural traditions. During a short walk, learn about local history, cultural landmarks, and the origins of poncha, while understanding how nature shapes daily life. Next, the route leads to Cabo Girão Skywalk, 580 meters above the Atlantic Ocean. Guests enjoy coastal views and observe dramatic cliffs and terraces that form habitats for birds and native flora. An off-road section follows through Ovo Girão, highlighting traditional farming, stone terraces, and mixed crops that preserve ecosystems and attract birdlife. The tour continues along agricultural roads in Xote, passing banana plantations, followed by another off-road section through chestnut production areas, focusing on native trees, seasonal cycles, and wildlife. At Boca dos Namorados, guests enjoy views over Curral das Freiras, learning how the valley’s isolation and geography protect endemic plants and bird species. The descent toward Jardim da Serra passes through cooler highland landscapes, offering insight into countryside life. A stop at Poncha do Calvário includes a traditional poncha tasting, linking sugarcane, citrus, and honey to Madeira’s agricultural heritage. The tour continues along the North Levada, explaining the historic irrigation system and its role in sustaining landscapes. In Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, the guide’s hometown, personal stories add authenticity. Lunch is served at the traditional restaurant Cá Está with local ingredients. The experience concludes at Ilha das Aves – Exotic Bird Zoo, where guests explore exotic bird species and learn about conservation, before returning comfortably to their accommodation
