Description
Begin with morning pickup and transfer to Pico das Pedras in Santana, the starting point of the PR9 trail. A local driver offers logistical details, safety instructions, and maps to support your self-guided hike.
The PR9 trail crosses the UNESCO-listed Laurissilva Forest, featuring forested areas, mountain views, rock tunnels, and historic water channels originally built for agriculture. The hike covers about 6.5 km each way (13 km round trip), plus an initial 1.9 km section each way on the PR9.1 “Caminho para Todos,” totaling approximately 17–18 km. Expect 5 to 5.5 hours hiking time, excluding transport.
After completing the hike, return transfers take you back to Funchal, Caniço, or Garajau.
