Description
Depart from Funchal with local guide André, born and raised in Madeira’s countryside. Begin with a scenic viewpoint overlooking Funchal, offering views of the city and ocean.
Drive along regional roads before heading onto a dirt track to a hidden bar where you can taste an authentic poncha, Madeira’s traditional sugarcane rum drink.
Continue to the highlands of Montado do Pereiro and Poiso, reaching Pico do Areeiro at 1818 meters, the island’s third highest peak, with panoramic views above the clouds.
Descend toward Ribeiro Frio via scenic mountain roads including a short off-road section. Visit the local trout farm and, optionally, take a forest walk to the Balcões viewpoint with your guide meeting you at the trail’s end.
Drive through remote trails in the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, heading towards Faial.
