Description
The tour begins at Pico do Arieiro, Madeira’s third-highest peak, offering time to explore and photograph expansive mountain scenery above the clouds. From there, descend into the Laurissilva forest to Ribeiro Frio for the PR11 Levada dos Balcões hike, a scenic and accessible walk ending at a viewpoint over the valley and surrounding mountains. Note there is a €4.50 entry fee for this hike.
After the hike, pause at a local bar for a café break before continuing to Cova da Roda. Experience an off-road 4x4 section through untouched nature, then proceed to Cascata Água d’Alto waterfall for a moment of calm surrounded by forest.
Next, visit Santana to see its iconic triangular thatched houses and enjoy lunch featuring authentic Madeiran cuisine. Then travel to Miradouro do Guindaste cliffs, where a glass platform offers striking views of the Atlantic coastline.
The tour continues with a visit to Engenhos do Norte, a traditional rum factory, where you can learn about Madeira’s rum production and enjoy a tasting session.
