Description
Embark on a full-day tour of Madeira's eastern coast. Admire the views from the Terreiro da Luta and Ponta do Rosto viewpoints, visit the Santana village, and explore the town of Machico.
Start the tour with a visit to Terreiro da Luta, the last stop on the only cog railway in Madeira. Marvel at the Our Lady of Peace sanctuary statue, which is supported by 4 Roman columns.
Continue to one of the highest points of Madeira, Pico do Arieiro at 1818 meters above sea level. Take in panoramic views of the central mountains and take some breathtaking photos.
Driving to Ribeiro Frio, into the heart of the Laurissilva Forest, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. Visit the famous trout farm, where this particular type of fish grows in the freshwater that comes from the Levada.
Arrive in Santana, best known for its traditional triangular-shaped houses. These houses are painted in bright colors and the thatched roof is made with straw. Enjoy some free time to explore the village.
After, drive to Portela’s viewpoint, located at 670 meters high, between Porto da Cruz and Machico. Admire the magnificent scenery with mountains that seem to flow down the valley towards the sea.
See the imposing Penha d’Águia rock formation at the Ponta do Rosto viewpoint. From here, see the North and South coasts of the Island.
Visit the town of Machico, where Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira disembarked in 1419 when they discovered Madeira. Explore the historical city center and stroll along the bay.
