Funchal, the charming capital of the Madeira archipelago, is a destination full of history, culture and natural beauty. With more than 600 years of existence, this city has witnessed fascinating historical episodes, from being an important port of call in the maritime routes to the Indies, to facing pirate attacks in search of its riches. In addition, Funchal was a favorite resting place for European royalty, who came in search of its mild climate and unique landscapes. Come and explore its streets, where every corner tells a story: from its majestic monuments to its hidden secret corners that few know about. On this tour, you will discover not only the most iconic places of Funchal, but also those magical spaces that make this city an unforgettable destination. We will start the tour at Almirante Reis Park, in front of the emblematic steamship 'Mosquito'. We will also walk along the picturesque Rua Santa Maria, where we will see some of its colorful and artistic painted doors. Then, we will stop at the vibrant Lavradores Market, a place full of life, aromas and local flavors. We will continue on to the beautiful Quinta das Cruzes, a place steeped in history, and culminate our tour at the majestic Sé Cathedral. Along the way, I will tell you fascinating details about each place and its best kept secrets - get ready to experience Funchal like never before!

Important Information

  • Your walking tour will be guided by local tour guides who, for 5 years, has been living in Funchal and has a great passion for history and for discovering the hidden secrets of the city. Remember to bring comfortable shoes, comfortable and cool clothes (in the case of the winter months, take a light sweater or a windbreaker and/or umbrella because it may rain a little), sunscreen and above all, water. The guided visits last about 2 hours and 30 minutes, with starting times at 10 am and 11 am, from Monday to Saturday. Tours are in English or Spanish. Please note that, although the tour takes place in the flat part of the city center, to get to Quinta das Cruces it is necessary to walk up about 200 meters and then go down a staircase street.
