Description
Discover the wildest and most authentic side of Madeira with the 4x4 East Tour, a tour that combines adventure, nature, and tradition. Aboard a 4x4 vehicle, explore secret trails known to few, crossing mountains, forests, and charming villages that showcase the island's essence.
The goal of this tour is simple: adventure with a Madeiran soul. We'll hit mountain trails, cross the mythical Laurissilva forest—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—and visit natural viewpoints with breathtaking vistas. Along the way, your guide will share interesting facts about endemic species, local history, and traditions that still define the rhythm of life in Madeira today.
The itinerary continues through the rural areas of Santo da Serra, Faial, and Santana, where the 4x4 shows its full potential on off-road trails. Here, the adventure takes shape among tunnels of vegetation, verdant slopes, and unique panoramic views of the north coast.
On the way, we'll stop at one of the last working steam mills in the world, where you can taste the traditional Cane Brandy from Engenhos do Norte—a real journey through time and the flavors of Madeira.
Lunch is flexible: you can choose a meal at a local restaurant, with regional specialties such as espetada em pau de louro, fried corn, and bolo do caco, or, if you prefer, have a typical outdoor patuscada at one of the stops overlooking the valley.
After lunch, we'll head to the iconic village of Santana, famous for its colorful thatched houses, a symbol of traditional Madeiran culture and architecture.
The tour culminates at the impressive Ponta de São Lourenço, the easternmost point of the island. Here, the reddish cliffs and the contrast between the sea and the rock create a unique landscape. On clear days, you can spot the island of Porto Santo on the horizon. To wrap things up, we'll visit the charming Prainha, a black sand beach nestled in a natural reserve of marine life—the perfect setting to relax before heading back.
Between scenic roads and off-road trails, this experience combines culture, nature, and excitement, ensuring a full and memorable day. Let your spirit of discovery be your guide—we'll take care of the rest.
